• Insulin is absolutely required for all animal life and is virtually identical in nematode worms, fish and mammals. In humans, insulin deprivation leads to death in days.
• When Frederick Banting was researching diabetes he had to sell his car in order to fund his research.
• Banting wasn’t known as a scholar. In his original first notes he spelled diabetes as diabetus.
